Here at McCluskey Automotive, we take great pride in our vast selection of pre-owned vehicles. If you are looking for a used car, truck, or SUV, then you have come to the right place. While our inventory varies from day-to-day, one of our favorite used vehicles to sell is the used Chevy Equinox. Although they have been around since 2005, we really love the third generation and late second generation models.

The Last Model of the Second Generation: A 2017 Used Chevy Equinox

Rumbling under the hood of most 2017 used Chevy Equinox models is a standard 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. This engine generates 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque; this motor is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and FWD (AWD is optional). In addition, with this engine, the 2017 Equinox can haul up to 1,500 pounds and has an estimated fuel economy set at 25 MPG combined (21 city/31 highway).

For the top two trim levels, you can also opt for the 3.6-liter V6 engine, which produces 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain features the same transmission and drivetrain. The maximum towing capacity is capped at 3,500 pounds with this engine, and it gets about 20 MPG combined (17 city/24 highway).

Available Trims on the 2017 Chevy Equinox

The base trim is the L model. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and features automatic headlights, cloth upholstery, and air conditioning. Also included are features such as a power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, 60/40 split-folding back seats, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a trip computer, and cruise control. As for infotainment, this version of the Equinox comes with a 7-inch touchscreen interface that functions with Bluetooth phone-only connectivity, OnStar telematics, a rearview camera, a 6-speaker sound system, and a 4G LTE Wifi hotspot. You can also charge your phone via the USB port.

Building off of that, the LS includes satellite radio, a compass, and the Exterior Appearance package. This package adds different 17-inch wheels and body-colored accents on the door handles and bumpers.

Then, the LT adds body-colored/heated side mirrors, LED daytime running lights, roof rails, and rear privacy glass to the outside of the vehicle. Inside the cabin, you will notice an upgraded infotainment interface featuring Bluetooth audio connectivity, smartphone integration, and voice controls.

Finally, the top-tier Premier model adds 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior accents, fog lights, and remote start technology. Furthermore, you also get heated leather seats, a heated steering wheel that is wrapped in leather, automatic climate control, driver memory settings, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The Third Generation

Since the 2018 model year, the third generation of the Chevy Equinox has been in production. Classified as a compact crossover, the Equinox can carry five people and offers around 30 cubic feet of cargo room behind the back row. If you need more space, you can fold down the second row of seating to expand the cargo area to its maximum of just under 64 cubic feet. These measurements remain mostly the same throughout the third-generation production run.

This model has a wheelbase measured at 107.3-inches and an overall length of 183.1-inches. They are about 72.6-inches across and 65.4-inches tall. There are multiple trim levels and powertrain options, depending on which model year you go with.

A lot of updates were made for the third generation production run. If you happen to find a used Chevy Equinox from this generation, then you will be in luck! You will get the benefit of having all of the best and most advanced features without the price tag of a brand new vehicle. So, without further ado, let’s explore the various production years for the third generation used Chevy Equinox.

A Start to a New Generation: A 2018 Chevy Equinox

For 2018, there were a few key changes from the 2017 model year. For instance, the engine lineup changed. The standard powertrain includes a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission, and FWD. This powertrain pushes out 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. Next is an available turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder motor coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission. This one produces 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. A third engine is a diesel 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 137 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. The average fuel efficiency for Equinox models with this diesel engine is about 28 MPG in the city and 39 MPG on the highway. Like the 2017 model, the towing range is between 1,500 pounds and 3,500 pounds.

Changes to the trims were also made. Added to the base L model are features such as LED daytime running lights, engine start-stop technology, heated side mirrors, keyless ignition/entry, and an updated infotainment system. This new interface operates with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the Teen Driver system.

For the LS and LT trims, not many changes were made.

The top-of-the-line Premier model was also mostly unchanged aside from the LED lights, hands-free liftgate, wireless charging pad, and ambient cabin lighting.

Moving Forward: The 2019 Chevy Equinox

If you come across the 2019 used Chevy Equinox, you will notice that not much was changed from the 2018 version. The trio of engines remains the same, and only minor updates have been done to a few of the trims.

The base L model gets three extra USB ports. The two added ports in the back are for charging only. The other three trims (LS, LT, and Premier) keep the same features from the 2018 models. However, it is possible to find a used Chevy Equinox from this production run that has a few extra features like a sunroof, a navigation system, and a larger 8-inch touchscreen interface.

The Most Recent Addition: The 2020 Chevy Equinox

Although it’s rare, it is possible to find a used 2020 Chevy Equinox. These new pre-owned models are highly recommended because you get the best and most advanced features with the least amount of miles at a lower price than the new model.

For the 2020 model, the biggest change was the removal of the diesel engine; however, the two gasoline-powered engines remain the same. All trim levels, including the base L model, come with standard safety systems such as forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-departure mitigation, emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and automatic high beam control.

The three higher trims (LS, LT, and Premier) remain unchanged, aside from the added safety features. If you find a used Chevy Equinox with a Bose stereo system or a 360-degree camera system, you have lucked out! These added packages are known as the Confidence and Convenience II and the Infotainment II packages.
