2009 marked the debut of the Hyundai Genesis, which was created to be one of Hyundai’s most luxurious sedans yet. As one of Hyundai’s initial entrances to the luxury class, it did not disappoint. The Genesis was received well among drivers and critics for its exceptionally extravagant interior, which offered more than enough features for its affordable price. Genuine leather combined with wood and chrome accents makes for a luxury brand interior, while entertainment and convenience technology was also impressive for the 2009 model year. Drivers looking for this used Hyundai Genesis for sale can find it equipped with a Lexicon Audio system, which was praised by critics for its incredible sound across 17-speakers. At the time, the only other vehicle that offered a Lexicon brand audio system was the Rolls Royce.

An Auxiliary USB and iPod ports were also included for easy connectivity, while additional features like HD radio, satellite radio, navigation, and Bluetooth are also offered. These advanced entertainment features are further enhanced by additional luxury features like heated and cooled seats and a climate control system. In terms of performance, drivers will have two powerful options to choose from on the Genesis. This 2009 model featured a 3.8L V6 engine capable of producing up to 290 hp and 264 lb-ft torque, as well as a 4.6L V8 engine which produced up to 375 hp and 333 lb-ft torque. Fuel economy ratings for these configurations were above average given the vehicles power. The V6 engine offered fuel economy ratings of up to 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, while the V8 engine’s ratings dropped only slightly to 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

For 2010, the Genesis featured a few new upgrades in terms of technology. These included the addition of a 7-inch navigation system, which was available on both the 3.8 and 4.6 models. Smart Cruise Control, as well as an electronic parking brake with automatic hill hold, were added to the available Technology Package. Ultra-premium leather seating was also added as an optional feature and was available on numerous trim levels and packages. Otherwise, the 2010 Hyundai Genesis largely remained the same as the 2009 model which debuted the 1st generation.

For 2011, the Hyundai Genesis made changes to its 4.6 model; however, these changes were significant. The 4.6 model, named for its 4.6L V8 engine, added ten horsepower to its level of power, yet was still able to maintain the same fuel economy ratings as its slightly less powerful model. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and has remained a popular option since its release. In terms of technology, luxury, and convenience, this used Hyundai Genesis remained similar to its previous models.

For 2012, Hyundai announced the release of its Genesis R-Spec model, which featured a 429 hp 5.0L V8 engine with sport-tuned suspension and specialized steering calibrations. This model also offers 19-inch wheels and exclusive exterior accents. An 8-speed transmission was added as the standard engine pairing for each trim levels, upgrading from the previous 6-speed automatic transmission. The standard 3.8L 4-cylinder engine added direct fuel injection, which increased its 290 hp production to 333 hp.

The 7.1 Discret Lexicon Audio System is still offered for the 2012 Hyundai Genesis, which remains as top-rated as in previous models. Standard features for the 2012 model included Bluetooth, leather seating, wood accents, and plenty of chrome accents. Drivers looking for this used Hyundai Genesis can also be found with a USB port, navigation, real-time traffic information, adaptive cruise control, push-button start, and keyless entry. For 2013, the Hyundai Genesis dropped the 4.6L V8 engine and made the 5.0 R-Spec model’s 429 hp engine the available engine apart from the standard 3.8L V6 engine. The entertainment technology also debuted new features, including an 8-inch display that allowed drivers to easily control the media options in the cabin. Blue Link telematics was also added to the navigation platform which came standard on the 5.0 model and was an available feature on the 3.8 model.

For 2014, any models equipped with Blue Link telematics also featured Assurance Connected Care, which offered roadside assistance and additional features. Other new features included 18-inch wheels as standard on the 3.8 model of the Hyundai Genesis and a heated steering wheel for the 5.0 R-Spec model. The 2014 Hyundai Genesis offered many of the same luxury and convenience features as its previous models and featured little changes in terms of performance.

For 2015, the Hyundai Genesis featured a complete redesign. On the outside, the Genesis is more luxurious and modern featuring smoother lines and a bolder front-end. On the inside, the driver and passengers have more space, and new infotainment options make entertainment and connectivity easier than ever before. Heated front seats and a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat are standard for the base model, while additional features like a 16-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 9.2-inch HD navigation screen, and the 17-speaker Lexicon surround sound system are available. The Genesis also receives an update in terms of standard and available driver assist features, with a rearview camera and front and rear parking sensors included on the base model. The opening trim level of the Genesis also came with headlight washers, and AWD became available for the first time.

The 2016 Hyundai Genesis marked the close of the luxury sedan’s second generation and last production model. Changes included the addition of HID headlights and LED daytime running lights, while LED fog lights also became an optional option on the 3.8 model. Otherwise, the 2016 model kept many of the same major advancements of the 2015 model, making it one of the most luxurious, advanced, and affordable vehicles in its class. Drivers looking for a used luxury vehicle without the luxury price tag will appreciate all that the used Hyundai Tucson has to offer across its first and second generations. If you’re looking for the most modern entertainment features possible, you’ll want to opt for a model within the second generation, but the first generation has almost identical luxury features and is even more affordable.
