In 2008, minivans made a few advances, one of which was the first six-speed automatic in a minivan. For 2009, Chrysler added blind spot monitoring and rear cross path systems. 2008 also saw a rethought interior and the new swivel n’ go arrangement. In fact, most of the changes that occurred during these years were to the interior-mainly to the seating and comfort areas.

Entertainment features now included a DVD support with a multimedia system to entertain the kids in the back and prevent distracting the driver from the road. The Dodge Grand Caravan also had 35 new features onboard compared to the previous generation models and was available in two models: the SE and SXT. Powertrain choices were limited to only four alternatives, from a 3.3-liter V6 up to a 4-liter V6, all of them with automatic 6-speed transmissions. This generation was not available with an all-wheel-drive system. In 2010, the Dodge Grand Caravan received a five-star (top safety) rating in several categories: front impact driver and passenger, side impact driver, and side impact rear passenger.

Fuel efficiency was improved with the introduction of a push button Fuel Economizer button that adjusts shift timing for reduced fuel consumption. A reduction in the van’s ride height created lower-rolling-resistance tires and a drag reducing roof spoiler also improved fuel efficiency on the Dodge Grand Caravan. The Grand Caravan also got an exterior upgrade with a new “double-crosshair” grille on the front in addition to a multitude of other exterior upgrades.
