The front suspension on the 2011 Silverado utilizes new upper and lower control arms and new torsion bars specifically tailored to meet a variety of gross axle weight ratings, while upper control arms are constructed from forged steel that is both stronger and lighter than the previous arms. To match, the new lower arms are also cast iron to maximize load capacity. Chevy’s engineers clearly prioritized engine capabilities as they were designing their new Silverado, and that sentiment is confirmed by the vehicle’s incredible trio of offerings. Customers had the options of choosing from several different offerings, starting with the “smallest” 4.3-liter EcoTec3 engine, which managed to pump out 285 horsepower. The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 engine was the next step up, with the unit promising an incredible 355 horsepower. Of course, the brand didn’t solely focus on engine capabilities. Rather, they also included a number of features and amenities that were intended to improve the entire driving experience. The brand now included the brand’s intuitive MyLink touchscreen unit, which provided easy access to both navigation and radio applications. An app is also available for the on-board infotainment system, which allows for the tracking of mileage, fuel economy, and transmission temperature of the vehicle while pulling a trailer. In addition, an optional trailer brake controller is available, as is a four-camera view system with a comprehensive view of the trailer while towing.
However, all of this capability and technology doesn't compromise on the fact that the Silverado is also an excellent daily driver. In addition to being tough, it glides gently over bumps and rough roads, while also offering a quiet interior ride free from engine and road noise. With a mix of impressive payload and towing capacity and room for the entire family, the latest fourth generation of the Silverado pickup offers all-around capacity for everything you can throw at it, whether it's a heavy construction gig or simply getting the kids off to school. As an evolution of the Silverado nameplate, this latest generation improves on what came before and will serve drivers well for years to come.
